The NHS has taken a significant step towards improving sustainability and nutrition across their trusts with the creation of a comprehensive recipe database. Through the use of Nutritics’ recipe and menu management system and Foodprint, our carbon footprint scoring system, this innovative platform is transforming food service across NHS trusts. By offering a centralised, easy to use solution for sustainable and healthy menu planning chefs, NHS chefs are empowered to serve meals that deliver on taste, while being environmentally responsible and nutritionally balanced.

A RECIPE BANK LIKE NO OTHER

The NHS recipe bank is the first of its kind, designed to provide chefs and catering teams with access to nutritionally analysed, allergen aware and carbon scored recipes. Using Foodprint 133 recipes have been classified as ‘low-carbon’, 82 categorised as ‘medium-carbon impact’ and just 21 as ‘high-carbon impact’. By being clearly labelled teams can prioritise sustainable choices.

Alongside carbon scoring and nutritional analysis, every recipe undergoes allergen assessment. For example the bank of recipes offers 83 gluten free recipes, 166 soya free recipes and 132 milk free recipes, ensuring that everyone is catered for.

EMPOWERING CHEFS

Chefs and catering teams are integral to delivering sustainable, healthy meals but they often encounter challenges in developing recipes and analysing them to assess their environmental impact. This recipe bank provides the tools and insights needed to easily pull recipes and create menus that are seasonal, nutritionally balanced and make a positive impact on our planet.

A PARTNERSHIP WITH IMPACT

This great initiative from the NHS just cements the power of technology and innovation in driving meaningful change. “Through the creation of this Food Platform, a bank of recipes utlising Nutritics’ tools, highlights the potential for organisations to adopt smarter, more sustainable approaches to food services” (Philip Shelley, Senior Operational & Policy Manager – Soft FM National Lead for Food NHS England, Commercial Directorate). Nutritics is proud to have played a role in creating such an important database of recipes that can make a positive impact and drive change.
